Leap Day - 2012 - Four Day Work Week - Snow predicted tomorrow

When the economy went south 3 or 4 years ago, builders started working a 4 day week 10 hours a day.  It saves 20% on travel, tons of time on set-up and take down and the staff gets a 3 day weekend.

With snow predicted tonight, there's enough of the room covered so they will still work tomorrow.  They'll be putting in ceiling strapping which is what the drywall will be screwed into.

This shot was taken at 4:15.  By 5:00 amazingly everything is
put away and the floor is completely clear.

Only the right rear corner (master bedroom) doesn't
have the roof covered, so that room may get snow.

$4000.00 budget just for nails!

I haven't spoken of the budget for this home but here are a few "Fun" facts:
  • The budget for nails really is $4000.00!  Seems like a lot to me, but building supplies are very expensive.  No, they're not gold plated.
  • It's cheaper, by a good amount, to buy an existing house in this market.  That being said, it's impossible to get exactly what you want without building.
  • This house will have over 40 windows and almost 30 interior and exterior doors.
  • The trusses (43 or so) were built way up in the 'county' at Aroostook Trusses and delivered by truck.  Everyone was a perfect fit.  http://www.aroostooktrusses.com/
  • Speaker wire costs $5.00 a foot?  Really?  HDMI Cables are even more.
  • We are so lucky to be building our home, only a jerk would whine about the costs.  Enough said.

The front gables are complete and the builders are
beginning to add trim.  The rear trusses should be completely
installed by end of day tomorrow (weather permitting).

The front gable was nearly completed today...

The gables are almost up and the interesting little details of the
roofline are starting to show up.

Here's our new neighbor Peter Darling with Annie's dogs Cooper and Max.
There's Rooney on the right and Joey, Ben's dog on the
lower left.  All Good Dogs and they get on together well too!

From some angles, all you can see is equipment.

What a difference a couple of days make.

Piece by piece, it's taking shape.

From the rear...

and the east side...

They call this the "Lull" for whatever reason, no one
seems to know why.  But a great tool it is for lifting heavy loads up high.

the view from the kitchen back toward the great room.  Without the windows
it's hard to tell what it will really look like.

This is the view of the livingroom and, with imagination,
one can see the tray ceiling shape.

The Garage is now framed - Next week the trusses go up.

The trusses, shown in the foreground, go up next week - then the house
will finally show it's complete shape.

The first floor framing is almost done!

One can begin to get a sense of the number of windows we
will have facing south.

Big windows looking from our bedroom

From the rear.

Over 40 trusses make up the somewhat complicated roof line.

Walls, Finally!

The walls of the dinning room (left) and kitchen (right) are now up.
Joey the black lab, far right, loves to chew all the extra lumber
coffee cups.  He's very helpful.
